ABOUT US
Downtown Pulse seeks to help the traditional downtown church navigate the changing urban culture, and to learn how to effectively communicate the gospel in word and deed to this culture. The ministry guides church members into city life through community involvement, urban mission experiences and relationships, and Bible study with those from all walks of urban life.
We approach ministry as missionaries, recognizing that we have a lot to learn from the people we have come to serve. We come respectfully, humbly, and compassionately. We strive to see people for their worth, not their need. We strive to understand divisions and find ways of reconciliation. We strive to discern why the gospel falls on deaf ears - what in the language has grown sterile? - and then strive to find the words that properly convey its power and new life.
We equip disciples, not generic volunteers. We build a culture of ministry, not programs.
Downtown Pulse is a ministry of The Mission Society in partnership with Lexington First United Methodist Church in downtown Lexington, KY.
